Meet Anitha, painter, abstract expressionist
I dream of painting, and then I paint my dream.
-Vincent Van Gogh
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Anitha, and I am a self-taught abstract artist working with acrylics as a medium. I paint on canvas, wood panels and anything where I can paint. :)
Why and when did you start painting?
About 6 years back, after a traumatic situation I started getting panic attacks, and realised that I needed to keep my mind active to distract myself from those traumatic memories. So I saw some painting ideas on bottles, and that inspired me to try my hand at it. I completely enjoyed the process, and it gave me the happiness and peace of mind that I've been searching for.
Soon after, I tried my hand in canvases, and liked what I saw. Sometimes, I wasn't happy with what I made, but since I was new at this, and learning more about the process, I continued to paint and enjoyed the experience. My research led me to trying different art styles, and I ended up falling in love with abstract expressionism, and have been hooked on it ever since.
What excites you and how do you incorporate that into your work?
Being in the moment with my paints and canvas, and being able to express the feelings I have inside me, is what excites me the most. I am constantly amazed with our beautiful world and its vast landscape. I love landscapes, textures, and colours of the sky, and try to incorporate them in my own way through art.
When was the last time you tried something new?
To me, every experience brings with it something new to try. I learn with every painting, and there is so much it can teach us. I trust the process, and whatever it brings with it.
What advice would you give an artist in hiding?
As the saying goes, 'every child is an artist.' Do not wait for 'perfection' to define your art. Show it to the world, and be confident in your work! Believe in yourself, and everyday is a new beginning. :)
What is your favourite piece and why?
All of my pieces are my favourite. But if I have to choose, it is this one titled, ‘The Beach’ because of the texture and colours used to bring it to life.
